Fact-Checking Policy

Good journalism starts with good fact-checking. All content published on Buzz Capitol goes through a verification process to ensure it is credible, accurate, and defensible.

Before publication, content is reviewed against the following standards:

Primary Source Verification

Wherever possible, every factual claim is traced back to a primary source. Primary sources include government documents, official statements, court records, and direct quotations from named individuals.

Multiple Source Confirmation

For significant claims — particularly breaking news, allegations, or matters of public interest — we require confirmation from at least two independent, credible sources before publishing.

Named Sources Preferred

We prefer on-the-record, named sources. Anonymous sources are used only when there is no other way to obtain important information and when doing so serves the public interest. In those cases, we explain in the article why anonymity was granted.

No Reporting Unverified Rumors as Fact

We do not present unverified claims as fact. When a rumor or unconfirmed claim is circulating on social media and becomes newsworthy in its own right, we report on it clearly as speculation, not as a confirmed fact.

Sources We Trust

We rely on a range of credible, established source types, including:

Government and Official Sources Congressional records, White House statements, court filings, and official statements from federal agencies.

Wire Services and Established News Organizations Outlets such as the Associated Press (AP), Reuters, The New York Times, The Washington Post, the BBC, and The Guardian.

Original Reporting On-the-record, on-camera interviews with named individuals, conducted by Buzz Capitol staff or contributors.

Fact-Checking Political Content

Political content is held to an especially high standard, given the potential for misinformation to affect public understanding. Before reporting on a politician’s claims, we check them against official records, voting history, and public statements. We do not amplify politically motivated claims that lack solid supporting evidence.

Handling Disputed Claims

When there is conflicting information on a factual matter, we:

  • Present a fair and complete account of the dispute
  • Identify the source of each claim and the basis for it
  • Avoid treating one side’s account as the definitive truth without sufficient evidence
  • Describe the evidence as it currently stands, updating as new information emerges
