Ken Urker Dies at 34; Sister “Disgusted” by Gypsy Rose
Ken Urker, the 34-year-old partner of Gypsy Rose Blanchard and father of her daughter Aurora, was found dead in his Raceland, Louisiana, home on October 1 — his 34th birthday. Days later, his sister Autumn told the Daily Mail the family is “disgusted” with Gypsy’s public statements, disputing key parts of her account.
What Happened to Ken Urker?
Urker was discovered unresponsive on Thursday, October 1, 2026, inside his home in Raceland, Louisiana. The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed to CNN that officers were called to the residence at around 6:15 p.m. and found Urker “dead upon arrival.” An investigation is underway.
The welfare check was called in by Anita Blanchard — Gypsy Rose’s sister-in-law — after Urker skipped work and stopped answering his phone and door. A family friend had been trying his door “for over an hour,” according to the sheriff’s office report. Gypsy’s half-brother Dylan then saw Urker lying unconscious on his bed through a bedroom window; when responding officers entered through the window, he was “cold to the touch.”
TMZ, which first reported the death, said Gypsy had sent Urker a “happy birthday” text that day and never received a reply.
What Did the Police Report Find at the Scene?
According to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office report reviewed by People, deputies found:
- Drug paraphernalia — syringes and a spoon in the bathroom, next to a brown, powdery substance
- A syringe, two shot glasses, and a handgun on the nightstand next to the bed
- A blood-stained paper towel placed on Urker’s left arm
Crucially, the sheriff’s office confirmed there was “no evidence of a gunshot wound” and no evidence of foul play.
The 911 dispatch log adds a troubling detail: Anita Blanchard told the dispatcher that Urker had threatened suicide shortly before his death and owned a gun. She said Urker had been at church with the family the previous evening — Wednesday, September 30 — and had told them he was “depressed and upset” and in a “dark place.” She also said he had been drinking that night.
No official cause of death has been announced. If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, call or text 988 in the U.S. to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
How Has Gypsy Rose Blanchard Responded?
Blanchard told People on Friday that she was in disbelief: “I’m in disbelief. I can’t think. I’ve screamed until my throat burns.”
“There are no words that can express the depth of this loss,” she added. “I ask for privacy and compassion for our daughter, our families, and everyone grieving Ken during this incredibly painful time.”
She also told People she suspected he died of an overdose but wasn’t sure of the circumstances: “I don’t know if it was intentional or not. He was not in a good state of mind lately. He had been drinking a lot to cope.”
In a longer statement shared on her Instagram Stories, she wrote: “Ken was an amazing father and a man who was deeply loved. He will forever be my soulmate and my red string, a connection that time, distance and even death can never erase. Above all, Ken loved our daughter Aurora… He will be deeply missed, forever loved and never forgotten.”
Why Is Ken Urker’s Family Criticizing Gypsy Rose?
In an interview with the Daily Mail published Saturday, October 3, Urker’s sister Autumn Urker, 31, said the family is angry about Blanchard’s public comments — and that she hasn’t contacted them directly.
“We are disgusted with her statements!” Autumn told the outlet. “She hasn’t even called my mother or any of us yet.”
She described her brother as a “great man” who “didn’t care if you were broken,” adding: “My brother was a good father, a good brother, a good son and a good friend, and we were all lucky and blessed to have known him.”
In a separate interview with the U.S. Sun published Friday, Autumn disputed two specific claims:
- That Urker was found only because he failed to respond to Blanchard’s “happy birthday” text — “Gypsy had no right to lie and say that it was because of some text that she sent to him.”
- That the couple were engaged and planning a second baby — Autumn said that was not true, and that the pair “were not together”, having split “over a month ago,” with Ken ending the relationship.
The sudden death has drawn the kind of massive true-crime attention BuzzCapitol has seen around other recent cases — from Netflix’s Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story to tributes following celebrity deaths this year.
Who Was Ken Urker?
Urker first connected with Blanchard while she was serving prison time: after watching HBO’s 2017 documentary Mommy Dead and Dearest, he wrote her a “supportive letter, not on any kind of romantic level” and included his phone number. They became engaged in October 2018 while she was incarcerated, briefly called it off, and reunited in August 2019 — before splitting again.
During their separation, Blanchard married Louisiana teacher Ryan Anderson in a July 2022 prison wedding; they parted ways in 2023, and she rekindled her romance with Urker. The couple welcomed their daughter, Aurora Raina Urker, in December 2024.
Blanchard, 35, pleaded guilty in 2016 to second-degree murder for her role in the 2015 killing of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard — a victim of Munchausen syndrome by proxy who had fabricated years of illnesses for her daughter. She served about eight years and was released in December 2023.
