Zach Bryan Wears ‘Free Palestine’ Shirt at Gillette Stadium Concert Amid Macklemore Controversy
Country music star Zach Bryan made a bold political statement on stage Friday night, wearing a black T-shirt emblazoned with the words “FREE PALESTINE” during his sold-out concert at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts — a venue owned by New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft.
The timing of Bryan’s on-stage message is impossible to ignore. It comes just under a month after rapper Macklemore was barred from performing at NFL stadiums over his own pro-Palestine statements — a decision in which Kraft himself played a leading role.
What Happened at Gillette Stadium
Bryan, 30, took the stage on October 2, 2026, wearing a black T-shirt with white 3D-style lettering reading “FREE PALESTINE.” Below the text sat an image of a pine tree, followed by the words “AN APPEAL TO HEAVEN” — a reference to a Revolutionary War-era American flag associated with George Washington’s command of the Continental Army.
The “Revival” singer wasn’t alone in his statement. Several of Bryan’s band members also wore Palestine-branded clothing on stage. Guitarist Noah Le Gros wore a green Palestine soccer jersey and later shared a photo of himself in the jersey standing in front of Kraft Sports and Entertainment signage at the stadium.
Friday’s show kicked off a two-night run at Kraft’s stadium as part of the closing leg of Bryan’s “With Heaven on Tour.”
The Macklemore Controversy: Why the Venue Matters
Bryan’s choice of venue adds a provocative layer to the story. Gillette Stadium is owned by Robert Kraft, who was at the center of the controversy surrounding Macklemore just weeks ago.
On September 4 and 5, 2026, Macklemore — performing as the opening act for Ed Sheeran’s “Loop” tour at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey — wore a black-and-white keffiyeh and delivered an on-stage speech calling for a “free Palestine” and freedom for “every single human being,” with footage of Gaza displayed on screens behind him.
The fallout was swift. Several NFL owners who were scheduled to host Sheeran’s tour threatened to pull the shows. Tour promoter Messina Touring Group assured the owners that Macklemore would not repeat the political messaging on the second night — but the rapper continued anyway.
Macklemore was subsequently dropped from the remainder of the tour after the stadium owners, led by Kraft, threatened to cancel Sheeran’s concerts entirely. Kraft and Sheeran — who share a long-standing relationship — later agreed to donate money to Palestinian relief efforts, with Kraft committing $2 million to match Sheeran’s donation “to fight this humanitarian crisis.”
In a show of solidarity, several of Sheeran’s other opening acts dropped out of the tour after Macklemore’s removal. Among them was Finneas, Billie Eilish’s brother, who wrote: “Artists must not be silenced when they speak up for the oppressed. … I stand with Palestine and its people.”
Macklemore has since launched his own “Free Palestine” tour, with stops in Dublin, London, and Paris.
A Growing Trend of On-Stage Political Statements
Bryan’s shirt continues a growing pattern of musicians using stadium stages for political expression in 2026. What makes this instance stand out is the directness of the venue choice — making the statement at a stadium owned by the very man who led the charge against Macklemore’s similar message.
Neither Bryan’s representatives nor Kraft Sports and Entertainment had publicly commented on the shirt at the time of publication.
What’s Next
Bryan’s Gillette Stadium run continues with a second night, wrapping up the closing leg of his “With Heaven on Tour.” Whether the “Free Palestine” shirt becomes a recurring feature of the tour’s final shows — or draws any response from the venue’s ownership — remains to be seen.
