Trump Air Force One Switch Explained: President Dismisses Iran Threat Concerns During Return from Turkey
By Buzz Capitol Team
President Donald Trump is setting the record straight on why he switched planes during his return trip from the NATO summit in Turkey.
Amid heightened tensions with Iran, Trump flew home from Ankara aboard the old Air Force One instead of the brand-new Qatari-gifted jet. The decision sparked speculation about security risks, but the president says there’s a much simpler explanation.
In a press conference and Truth Social posts, Trump made it clear: the new Trump Air Force One was being sent ahead to Mildenhall Air Force Base in the United Kingdom so U.S. troops could tour the spectacular aircraft.
“For old time’s sake, we’ll be taking the former Air Force One from Turkey to Mildenhall,” Trump wrote. “A short trip that is totally worth doing in order to give our Great Military Heroes a chance to appreciate our beautiful new addition to the Air Force Fleet!”
He added that the new plane would stop at a couple of major bases in Europe so soldiers could see the “truly magnificent” aircraft up close.

Trump Acknowledges Iran Threats But Says He’s Not Worried
When pressed by reporters about whether the plane switch was due to security concerns linked to Iran, Trump was candid about the dangers of the job.
“Well, I speak about it a lot because the life of a president is very dangerous,” Trump said. “I’m No. 1 on the kill list for Iran. They’re lovely people. I’m No. 1.”
The president has faced multiple assassination attempts and often references the high risks that come with the office. He compared the mortality rate for presidents (around 5.2%) to far lower risks in extreme sports like race car driving or bull riding.
Despite acknowledging the threats, Trump said he doesn’t let it affect him.
“I don’t really care because I’m doing my job,” he stated. “I like being No. 1 on TikTok better, but I’m No. 1 on the list for killing.”
Background on the New Trump Air Force One
The new Boeing 747-8, gifted by Qatar, has been a point of pride for Trump. He has called it state-of-the-art and has been eager to show it off. However, questions have been raised about whether it has all the advanced security features of the older plane, including missile defense systems.
Trump and the White House have pushed back on those concerns, insisting the new aircraft is fully equipped. The decision to use the older plane for part of the journey was framed as an opportunity to let troops experience the new one first.
What This Means Amid US-Iran Tensions
The timing of the plane switch comes as tensions between the US and Iran continue to escalate, with fresh strikes and threats dominating headlines. Trump has been vocal about Iran’s aggression, particularly regarding attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
His openness about being a top target shows the seriousness of the situation, even as he maintains a confident and sometimes humorous tone.
As Trump returns to Washington, the focus remains on his handling of international crises, including the ongoing situation with Iran and efforts to strengthen alliances at NATO.
